Our curriculum aims to develop in students a sound knowledge of the history of the Qur'anic text and a deep understanding of Qur'anic studies, including its moral and social values.
"Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created. He has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who has taught by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not."
The Noble Qur’an [96: 15]
We strive to instil a profound respect for the Qur'an and support students in becoming confident, independent readers. Through activities such as memorisation, Tafseer, and recitation using the rules of Tajweed, students are encouraged to engage with the Qur'an in ways that build both understanding and enjoyment.
To achieve these aims, we ensure that students understand the importance of learning and teaching the Qur'an sincerely for the sake of Allah, with purified intentions. They are guided to use authentic resources when seeking understanding, and to refrain from interpreting the Qur'an based on personal opinion. Students are encouraged to share the Qur'anic message within their families, school, and wider community. They will also be introduced to the miraculous nature of the Qur'an, including its scientific insights, and will have opportunities to explore and discuss Qur'anic issues through initiatives such as memorisation competitions. Ultimately, students will use their knowledge to appreciate the wisdom behind the Qur'an’s teachings.
Assessing, monitoring and recording student progress is carried out regularly on a lesson-by-lesson basis, based on lesson objectives and outcomes. These are conducted informally by the class teacher and are used to inform future lessson planning. Students sit written tests at the end of each unit of work to enable summative assessments that are used in reporting to parents.
Qur'an is a non-examination subject. You can see our school performance figures for 2024 GCSE exams here.
Our goal is to help Year 7 and 8 students revive their hearts and purify their souls through a sustained connection with the Qur’an. Ramadan Qur’an Competition
For this annual competition, students are encouraged to memorise all or part of the Surahs studied. During the month of Ramadan, inter-class competitions are held to motivate and celebrate progress. This promotes a healthy and engaging Qur’anic culture across the school.
