Student Welcome on the First Day of School

Student Welcome on the First Day of School

The first day of the new academic year is always busy and exciting at Islamia Schools. We kickstarted the 2025-26 Autumn Term on September 3rd, with both Islamia Girls School (IGS) and Brondesbury College for Boys (BCB) opening their doors to welcome students.

The day began with informal greetings at the school entrance from 8am, with our Headteacher, deputies, teachers, and students saying salaams. Students then moved to their form rooms, where tutors offered a personal welcome and shared key instructions for the term ahead.

Special care was given to our new Year 7 students, who were met at the main gate by their tutors to help ease first-day nerves, build confidence, and encourage a smooth transition into secondary school life.

The morning continued with a welcome assembly delivered by our Headteacher Mr Ali. This took place during Period 1 at IGS and Period 2 at BCB.

Mr Ali reminded students about the school’s ethos and aims. He also celebrated our outstanding GCSE results, motivating younger students to strive for the same high standards.

Mr Ali then spoke about salat, and the five levels outlined by Ibn al-Qayyim, encouraging reflection on responsibility, balance, and discipline. He further reminded students about key school roles and policies, as well as the importance of limiting smartphone use to protect wellbeing, focus, and healthy relationships.

A highlight of the day was the excitement of seeing the newly refurbished mosques at both IGS and BCB. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our caretaker, Brother Flamur, and his team, the IGS mosque was repainted and fitted with new carpets and a magnificent new chandelier over the summer holidays. Our BCB mosque was also fitted with a brand-new carpet, and its walls were repainted.

We are grateful for the renovation of these spaces, which now shine with warmth and tranquillity. They are a source of pride for our Islamia community.

Overall, the welcome events strengthened relationships between staff and students, instilled confidence (especially for our new Year 7 cohort) and set a purposeful, uplifting tone for the year ahead.
